John Romero – a living legend in game development and one of the most creative minds in tech history – was at DevLand!

With more than 130 games developed, over 100 international awards, and iconic titles such as Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, Quake, Heretic + Hexen, Romero has not only defined a genre, but shaped entire generations. As co-founder of id Software, he is one of the most influential game designers in the world and is still considered the "father of first-person shooters" today.

Romero is a self-made programmer, designer, and artist who, since 1979, has been showing what happens when vision, courage, and technical skill come together. From early mainframes to modern engines, his career stands for innovation and creative experimentation.

At DevLand, he shared his experiences from over four decades of tech pioneering in his keynote – a unique insight into the mind of a man who created digital worlds and revolutionized an entire medium. An inspiring highlight for anyone who loves big ideas and wants to shape the future.

Visionary Track

The Visionary Roundtables at DevLand provided C-level decision-makers with a private space for peer-to-peer exchange. The focus was on the major transformations of our time: accelerating processes, managing risks, enhancing security, and simultaneously developing new role and skill profiles.

Short keynote presentations set the stage, after which participants worked together to develop a situational analysis, prioritize challenges, and identify next steps for their organizations. The results were subsequently shared as a concise summary—serving as the foundation for further collaboration beyond DevLand.

As part of the Visionary Track, participants were invited to an exclusive C-level dinner at the multisensory fine dining restaurant eatrenalin. Here, guests were treated to an eight-course dinner prepared by four two-star chefs. The sensory journey combined culinary expertise with multimedia content to offer a completely new haute cuisine experience.
